Alloy Fasteners is one of the largest stocking distributors in the United States for the Dewalt and ELCO Flex Technology fastener brands. These products’ quality, design, and reliability have been the gold standard in the construction market. Alloy’s decades of superior service in the curtainwall industry, tied with the Dewalt/ELCO product lines, make Alloy a natural fit for your fastener needs.

Dewalt/ELCO brands of fasteners offer multiple materials, coatings, and applications. From DrilFlex Tek Screws to AggreGator Concrete Anchors, we have you covered. Alloy distributes other Dewalt lines, such as drill/driver bits, adhesives, etc. Their Stalgard GB coating protects against galvanic corrosion and adds lubricity during the drilling and taping processes.

Alloy Fasteners, one of the largest United States distributors of Flex Technology products, is the knowledge leader for this product line. Our experienced product experts can conduct a detailed Lunch and learn about Flex Technology for your team, instilling confidence in our ability to eliminate the possibility of fastener failures on your projects.

Over the last five decades, Elco Construction Products has developed Flex Technology® fasteners which are immune to hydrogen-induced failures. This is achieved using unique alloy materials and proprietary heat treatment processes. The result is fasteners that designers and systems manufacturers can utilize to enhance the performance of critical connections. When choosing fasteners for a curtain wall component, it’s crucial to apply special attention to prevent fastener failures. Standard case-hardened fasteners, while suitable for steel-to-steel applications or in dry zones, are vulnerable to delayed embrittlement failures. These failures are brought on by hydrogen, which is generated in aluminum and steel connections in the presence of moisture. This moisture can be from environmental exposure, condensation, or humidity. The presence of hydrogen will attack fasteners with a core hardness greater than RC34 and cause the fastener to become embrittled. The result is a loss of design loads, and fasteners will break, causing joint failure.

Three conditions need to be met to experience this condition.

1. A hardened fastener with a Rockwell core hardness greater than RC34.

2. Applied load or stress on the fastener.

3. The presence of moisture.

Once all three conditions are met, fasteners will fail. This failure can be in the form of leakage or panels separating from the building’s structure and falling to the ground.

Below are some commonly used product lines in the industry, along with links to the brochures and specifications you need to choose the suitable fastener for your application.

Metal Applications

Drill-Flex

A versatile dual heat-treated fastener crafted from a special alloy heat-treated to a grade 5 specification with a core hardness of RC28-34. Its induction-hardened drill point and lead threads to an RC52 enable it to drill and tap steel while maintaining ductility in the load-bearing area. This adaptability makes it a reliable choice for aluminum and steel applications and other materials. The Stalgard & Stalgard SUB coatings provide 1000 to 2000 hours of protection in moderate corrosive areas, further enhancing its versatility.

Tap-Flex

Uses the proven manufacturing processes from DrilFlex to provide a grade 5 bolt that taps threads in steel. A great alternative to TapTite. The E-Form proprietary lead threads significantly reduced drive torque and were followed by a full round body thread that increases performance over other products. Grade 5 heat treatment is ideal for use in aluminum and can be used in all types of metal. These are then finished with Stalgard GB for protection in moderate corrosive areas.

Bi-Flex

A high-performance bimetal fastener, is designed for the most demanding situations. Its 18-8 stainless head and shank, fused to carbon steel lead threads and points, allow it to drill and tap steel while maintaining maximum corrosion resistance in the load-bearing area. The Stalgard GB coating protects against galvanic corrosion and adds lubricity during the drilling and taping process, making installation easier. This high-performance fastener is commonly used in aluminum to steel applications, demonstrating its reliability in demanding situations.

Alumi-Flex

A completely 18-8 stainless steel self-drilling fastener designed for aluminum-to-aluminum applications. It eliminates predrilling and pre-tapping, making the installation process more convenient. The Stalgard GB coating protects against galvanic corrosion and adds lubricity during the drilling and taping process, further enhancing the ease of installation.

Concrete Anchoring

Ultracon+

A 3/16” & ¼” diameter threaded concrete anchor. They are used in light to medium-duty applications and are available in several colors for exposed situations. Stalgard offers industry-leading corrosion protection. UltraCon+ is accepted by the City of LA, Miami-Dade, and FL statewide approvals.

UltraCon

A 5/16” diameter threaded concrete anchor used when increased pull-out and shear values over ¼” diameter anchors are desired. It is available in 5 head styles and finished with Silver Stalgard for corrosion protection. Miami-Dade has accepted it, and FL has approved it Statewide.

Aggre-Gator

A bimetal threaded concrete anchor that offers corrosion resistance of 18-8 stainless steel and can be used in 4,000 psi concrete. It is finished with Stalgard GB to protect against galvanic corrosion and has been accepted by Miami-Dade and FL Statewide approvals.

Screw-Bolt+

A high-performance, heavy-duty threaded concrete anchor available in zinc or mechanical galvanized finish. It can be used in close-to-edge applications and is removable and re-installable in the same hole, making shimming operations easy.
